Soling Europeans 2019

FIN46 (Heinonen-Helmhout-Heinonen), European Champions 2019

This year, the Soling European Championships were held in Torbole, Lake Garda. This year saw the introduction of carbon masts to the Soling class, as developed by Ceilidh Composite Technologies and ‘Group Orion’.

Four challenging days with both light and heavy winds made for an interesting and balanced championship. Congratulations to Eki Heinonen, Gabor Helmhout and Matias Heinonen of the FIN 46 for winning the Europeans with the Ceilidh Composite Technologies mast.

Soling Mast Prototype

Ceilidh Composite Technologies and ‘Group Orion’ are currently developing a new carbon fibre mast profile for the Soling Class. With approval from the Soling Class the first 5 sections have been manufactured to show the possibilities. Including a bend curve which is as good as identical to the current Aluminium spars and detailed finishing to increase reliability and ease of installation the group looks forward to class approval of this exciting development.

Carbon Yard for Norfolk Broads

Recently we supplied a new carbon fibre yard for the 94 year old ‘topsail’ rigged ‘Breeze’ on the Norfolk Broads. In order to achieve the required stiffness fore-aft to ensure suitable leech tension on the mainsail the new Soling Mast profile was chosen. At 105mm * 70mm with an integrated sail track this profile gave an improvement of around 50% of stiffness compared to the original carbon tube while weighing in at 13kg for a 7.5 meter spar.

With a turn-around time of 22 days including transport to the UK the customer was pleased to get on the water at one of the important races in the Broads calendar.

Essence 33 delivered in USA

The sleek lines of the Essence 33, developed by Yagt B.V. from a classic Hoek Design have allowed Ceilidh Composite Technologies to prove their passion for product development. The detailing of the spars has been completed together with Michel Hof of Essence Yachts, looking at every fitting to improve design and functionality. Internal retrieval lines to take up the slack, simple solutions for lazy-jacks and clean stainless steel fittings have been designed specially for this project. Recently Michel completed delivery of boat number 6 in Greenport, USA. This is the second set of spars that Ceilidh has supplied, and with 2 more sets on order the development and quest for the optimal product remains unabated.
